Story
In
1999, our
family decided to visit the Daniel Boone Farm in After reading stories about Daniel Boone, my children were so excited to see his home and the tomahawk thrown by the Indians at one of his kidnapped daughters. Prior to the tour, we watched a historical movie, and during the movie my four year old son requested a trip to the restroom. As we left the movie, we saw this butterfly on this mimosa tree just outside the building. If you have never seen a mimosa tree, they are very delicate and exotic looking, with fern-like leaves and flowers that are like pink feathery starbursts. We stood there hand in hand, and gazed upon it with wonder. That summer, Jack was so in love with butterflies. I collected them as a child, and was so joyous that summer that we had shared this love. I collected them in fifth grade, and I memorized the entire American book of butterflies by name. We became so caught up in this beauty. First, it was on the flower of course. But what was so unusual about this butterfly was that it was so perfect, and it was a swallowtail, my favorite kind as a child. Butterflies at rest many times keep their wings together, but this butterfly cooperated by slowly fluttering its’ wings so we could view it in all its glory. This butterfly must have been newly hatched because it was flawless. We fell into its beauty like a trance, and we both marveled at how it did not try to fly away. It seemed like we shared this moment for an eternity. It was very hard for us to pull our eyes away from it. ![]()
Suddenly it was as if we were looking in the zoom lens and then we backed off and looked at the whole tree, covered with hundreds of blossoms. Do you know what was on every single one of those beautiful flowers? Click on ButterflyTree Story continued to finish amazing story |

To protect the privacy of their children, her husband and Mariah decided to use "pen" names for their entire family. The stories shared are true, only the names have been changed. |
